Selection criteria for pre-deployment courses

Pre-deployment training courses aim at preparing experts who are in the process of deployment to a civilian crisis management operation. They address both seconded and contracted personnel.

All courses will provide civilian experts with the basic knowledge and soft skills required for deployment in an international crisis management mission, irrespective of their specific functions they fulfil in the field. At the end of the training, participants will have acquired knowledge about specific conflicts and its parties, as well as about the political background and the role of the mission. They will be familiar with the challenges of mission work and life and security issues. The courses will also raise awareness for inter-cultural issues, gender affairs and personal conduct.

Candidates are considered who:

  • Have been contracted for a civilian crisis management mission;
  • Have been seconded to a civilian crisis management mission;
  • Have been nominated for secondment to a civilian crisis management mission and are most likely to be deployed;
  • Have been pre-selected by the national focal point to be nominated for a specific mission;
  • Have a very good command of the English language (or other(s) as appropriate).

ENTRi aims to cover 90% of the course with participants already deployed or about to be deployed to a civilian crisis management mission in the respective region or country. In the selection process, ENTRi ensures that an appropriate gender and nationality balance is reflected in the pool of selected participants. Due consideration is also given to ensure participation of national mission staff, trainees from the Global South and candidates nominated by EU member States and other seconding countries.

The courses are co-funded by the European Commission and the ENTRi partners. The following costs are covered by the project:

  • Full board and lodging;
  • International travel.
