Empowerment of Local Staff in International Organisations in Kosovo

14-17 April 2015, Pristina, Kosovo

Course Description

The Centre for European Perspective (CEP) from Slovenia, together with the Scuola Superiore Sant’ Anna (SSSUP) from Italy is organising 3.5 day training for local staff members working in international organisations in Kosovo.

The concept and programme of this specialised training course is based on a needs assessment conducted among staff members of international organisations in Kosovo. It focuses on skills that are required for the successful performance of work tasks within an international organisation, such as an understanding of all aspects of crisis management, negotiation and mediation skills, communication skills, cultural and gender sensitivity, human rights as well as project management, stress management, etc. The needs assessment was a critical tool for shaping and developing the course content. Therefore, views and opinions by local staff are now being compiled into desired topics for the course.

The training agenda is designed to support the capacity building activities of local personnel working for international missions in Kosovo. The aim of the training course is to equip different categories of local staff with the needed general theoretical framework as well as practical tools to allow them to be active mission members and to operate smoothly in the mission environment. It also aims at fostering a common level of knowledge, which in turn facilitates the integration and coherence of the missions and contributes to the creation of a common working culture, a sense of common identity and purpose.
