Child Protection, Promotion & Response

6 March 2015 - 15 March 2015
Stadtschlaining, Austria

Conflicts disproportionately affect children. Many are subject to abductions, military recruitment, killing, maiming, and numerous forms of exploitation. Armed conflict denies children the opportunity to grow up in an environment where their fundamental rights to survival, participation, and development are respected and protected. They are never the cause of such conflicts, but nevertheless bear the worst consequences of each war fought.

The multiple track approach necessary to address the multiple distresses affecting children in armed conflicts gives room for various operational activities from monitoring and reporting to delivery of essential livelihoods support to technical assistance.

This course introduces child rights assessment and monitoring; strategies for the prevention of child rights violations; strategies to reduce the impact of armed conflict on children (child recovery, rehabilitation, and reintegration); child rights-based and child-participatory approaches; involvement of children in rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts; instruments and actors for the implementation of strategies for child protection, monitoring, and rehabilitation.
