Aim & Content
The overall objective of the ENTRi specialisation course on organized crime is to familiarize and better equip experts who work in environments where illicit activity has an impact on the political and economic situation, as well as sustainable post-conflict peace building and development. The training course will:
- Explain to participants the phenomenon of organized crime and its impact.
- Provide participants with the analytical tools and skills to identify and analyse illicit groups and activities.
- Explain the challenges and possibilities of working with actors involved in illicit activity, particularly in the context of peace operations.
- Provide an inter-action between practitioners and experts involved in dealing with organized crime activities.
- Provide participants with information and contacts to enhance their networks and knowledge.
Methodological Approach
The course employs a mixture of theory and practice to equip participants with state-of-the-art methodologies derived from on-the-ground experience, also taking into account the working environment of the participants. The participants will be involved in lectures, inter-active discussions, and simulations as well as preparing a threat assessment. Material for the project draws heavily on recently published documents produced by the International Peace Institute (IPI) in the context of its Peace without Crime project.
Target Group
- Current or prospective staff members of peace operations, particularly in fragile states.
- Practitioners involved in development and humanitarian work as well as political and strategic advice who are seeking a better understanding of, and skill set to address, organized crime.
- Law enforcement and criminal justice experts dealing with situations involving illicit activity.
The application deadline for this course is 07 September 2015.
